I've joined in with SarahDB on this challenge, and fully agree that it's making depth-of-winter dressing both more fun and more enlightening. My extra wrinkle is that I am supposed to pair something new with something older. So far, I have succeeded in this. Ick. Show some skin: I don't mean be vulgar, but a scoop neckline isn't as frumpy as a high, tight jewel neckline. As I have aged, turtlenecks are high on my least-flattering list, but a cowl neck that shows some collarbone is still flattering. Don't wear sweats or fleece unless you are home and freezing to death.Coats and Outerwear MUST close, but I don't think that blazers need to close in the same way. Often we wear them open. If a blazer or jacket fits perfectly everywhere else, but does not close over the bust or waistline - so be it. Baggy BF blazers will fit differently to tailored blazers - keep that in mind too.All this is a round about way of saying that, depending on the shape of your foot, you might want to try a 38.5 or even a 39 depending on how tight the shoe was on your foot. I know that my size 10.5 feet generally are happy in a 42 in a fashion shoe, but find a 41 fits better in a comfort sandal. 9 years ago. Vicki. Welcome! Firstly—I’ve been away for a while due to sickness (some kind of flu or cold bug), and an intense chicken situation. Long story short, we may end up culling a hen who has become exceedingly mean to the flock. Okay… back with a haul! The top circumference of your sleek, knee-high boots should be snug around your calves. There shouldn’t be more than a quarter of an inch of space at the top of the boot and that’s pushing it. Wearing long, streamlined boots that don’t fit snuggly against the calf is like wearing a tailored jacket that’s too big on the shoulder.Fashion Stylist. This is a great topic Theresa. Buying the same items in different colours is not a strategy that I recommend precisely because of the reasons that Mirah has highlighted (well done Mirah!) The same basic knitted top in two different colours is fine from time to time, and it’s even great for dress pants, but that’s where I ...They are not tight, so they don't have the shapewear feel at all, but they are smooth and close-fitting enough to go under knit dresses and skirts. For your dress, I would get a full slip if possible, so you don't create a line at the waist, and so when you raise your arms, your slip will rise up with your dress. Discuss your personal style. A new outfit from Janie Medley of Medley Style, whom we introduced to YLF in March 2023. Janie dazzles in a below-the-knee fitted turtleneck dress and show-stopping aqua ankle boots. The dress’s photograpic print in autumnal shades of brown, green, cream, blue, and …2. a heel can be cut/shortened by no more than 1/2 an inch at the most, without throwing out the line of the shoe. The center pin in the heel would be too angled to support the foot in the shoe. Went to the shoe repair many times with many pairs of shoes to see if it could be done for any particular pair. Cheers! That will stop it from running any further. Hope this helps! Get a slip with a vent and turn the vent to the front or a slip shorter than the vent often works too.Veteran. Every time someone mentions Talbots I remember riding the elevator with the Talbots ladies in NYC. Their office was two floors above mine or something. It never failed: they'd be dressed in shlumpiness, but the moment any other lady came on board, they'd be scanned head to toe then dismissed with a haughty sniff.Welcome! Joy, From my experience, Uniglo sizing in Japan runs smaller than in the US. I bought my first Heattech shirts while on a trip to Japan (before they even sold in the US) and ordered a medium. A patterned shirt and an interesting cut on the blazer will take you further from polished and corporate, but only a few steps. If it makes you feel better, even I don't easily wear collared shirts and blazers often. They feel too formal for me too.Sometimes the name does refer to a looser overall straight leg jean. In recent years, the name has been used to describe a style that is looser in the crotch and/or thighs with tapering toward the ankle, typically worn rolled. The tapering and rolling are part of the look. You choose your preferred degree of looseness on the crotch/ thigh area.Angie's Blog is a personal style blog featuring outfits, beauty, home and travel. Seemed kind of pointless because I could not then go scoop up the same item for myself. (I still tell them they look gorgeous, I just don't bother asking where they got it.) 13 years ago.13 years ago. wilson. Active Member. I have a wide ribcage and smallish bust too. The challenge for me is finding dresses that zip up all the way but don't bag at the chest. A lot of dress zippers get stuck right at my rib cage because it is so wide then my chest is drowning in a sea of fabric. It's lovely to pretend that I am a size four or two, but it's just a numbers game. I've purchased petite sizes from Talbot's in the last year (not sure when the design change took place) and yes, I'd say they do run on the large size, about one size larger than usual. I have to agree with Becky, about 1 size larger..
